Kamoa Copper’s commitment to good governance includes our strict anti-corruption policy, respect for human rights, effective stakeholder, and grievance management, and embedding a number of international developmental frameworks, reporting guidelines and good practice standards into our business approach.
Kamoa’s approach to respecting human rights is informed by the broad corpus of international human rights laws, declarations, covenants, principles, standards, and guidelines, as well as by the legislative prescripts in the DRC. We are committed to the ongoing assessment of potential human rights risks and impacts associated with our activities, as well as across our broader value chain. We appreciate that human rights due diligence is an ongoing process assessment, management and improvement in identifying, assessing, prioritizing, acting upon, monitoring and reporting on human rights impacts using building blocks such as human rights impact assessments that inform the development of strategic human rights management plans. Kamoa conducted its first Human Rights Impact Assessment (HRIA) in 2022 with follow-up assessments carried out in Q4 2022 – Q1 2023, and Q3 2024. With support from an independent specialist global social consultancy, Kamoa further continues with the operationalisation of its human rights action plan by deepening the assessment of specific, priority high-risk areas and updating the related recommendations.
