Sustainable Development Goals

Social

Kamoa Copper is dedicated to inclusive community development, emphasising sustainability through initiatives like the Sustainable Livelihood Program, community infrastructure projects, local procurement, and enterprise and supplier development. Our commitment extends to empowering individuals through comprehensive education and training programs for employees and community members, reflecting our holistic approach to fostering thriving communities.

Local Employment

Kamoa Copper prioritizes diversity and inclusion by actively recruiting and retaining local talent from host communities. We emphasize maximizing local employment through internal and local advertising of positions before seeking external candidates, only turning to them if a suitable local candidate isn’t found. Casual labour opportunities and positions not requiring specific skills are filled locally. These principles extend to our supply chain, with all contractors required to adhere to these recruitment policies and procedures.

Stakeholder Engagement and Grievance Procedure

We are dedicated to continually improving our inclusive stakeholder engagement strategy through setting targets aligned with long-term objectives and aspiring to be a positive impact mine.
Our commitment is to secure and maintain social acceptability and maintaining our social license to operate, by ensuring effective communication and collaboration between our site teams and local communities.
We have a dedicated community relations team and grievance officer.

Our commitment is to promptly address grievances through effective mechanisms, ensuring access to remedies and avenues for raising concerns or complaints.

Our footprint area includes 40,000 people across 41 villages. We are committed to widespread sharing of social and economic benefits from our operations. This commitment is reinforced through community initiatives and stakeholder agreements with host communities, local entrepreneurs, and employees, maintaining our social license to operate. These strategic initiatives align with priority SDGs, particularly SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).

Social Responsibility Programs

Kamoa Copper prioritises corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs as integral components, aiming to enhance community well-being, environmental sustainability, and long-term positive impacts beyond our operational activities.

We manifest our commitment to CSR through various sustainable livelihood programs, including community development projects, environmental conservation efforts, and stakeholder engagement programs, ensuring a comprehensive and sustainable approach to our mining operations.
