With over 40 years of mining experience, Jan Strydom, Executive of Mining at Kamoa Copper, has developed a deep expertise in both underground and surface mining. He began his career in 1982 as a Learner Official and progressed through roles including Mine Overseer, Sectional Manager, and Project Manager. Jan has worked with prominent mining companies such as Anglo Platinum, Two Rivers Platinum, and Murray & Roberts before establishing his own venture, amassing a wealth of industry knowledge.
Jan’s background in mining operations is rooted in hands-on experience and leadership across various mine sites. His comprehensive skills in technical mining, safety management, and project leadership have made him a respected figure in the industry, with extensive knowledge in narrow, steep stopes, conventional stoping, and the development of mining reefs.
As Executive of Mining, Jan is responsible for overseeing Kamoa Copper’s mining operations, ensuring optimal productivity and operational safety. His expertise in conventional and hydropower development, shaft deepening, and trackless room and pillar mining allows him to effectively manage large-scale projects like chairlift extensions, ventilation shaft raise boring, and decline ramp development, all critical to the mine’s success.
