Ben Munanga
Chairman of the Board
Ben Munanga brings over 30 years of electrical engineering expertise to his role as Chairman of the Board of Directors at Kamoa Copper. With a strong background in energy and mining, Ben also serves as President of Ivanhoe Mines Energy DRC, where he leads critical energy projects in partnership with SNEL, the DRC’s national power utility. His career spans leadership roles at Eskom, South Africa’s national power utility, and advisory work for the Republic of Mali, making him a respected industry expert.
Ben has held senior engineering roles in the mining sector, notably with Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation (ENRC) and Kamoto Operating Limited. From 2011 to 2013, he served as a member on the Board of Directors for Boss Mining, an ENRC subsidiary. Currently, he chairs the Energy Commission of the Chamber of Mines in the “Fédération des Entreprises du Congo” (FEC), where he influences regional energy policies.
In his leadership role at Kamoa Copper, Ben provides strategic direction, especially for energy initiatives crucial to sustainable mining. As President of Ivanhoe Mines Energy DRC, he oversaw the modernisation of the Mwadingusha hydroelectric power station, applying innovative technology to enhance energy efficiency.
Ben champions sustainable mining practices, reducing environmental impact and supporting local communities. His leadership in regional energy policy demonstrates his commitment to advancing responsible mining in Africa.
